About the story....

Dr. Ronald Markman has one of the most frightening jobs in the world. As a forensic psychiatrist, he frequently finds himself alone in a room with people who have killed-often without provocation or apparent motivation. After lengthly interviews and evaluations, it is Markmans subsequent input or courtroom testimony that provides vital evidence as to the degree of a murderers responsiblity, and thus his sentence period.

Alone with the Devil is Markmans riviting analysis of some of his toughest cases-two of Charles Manson's followers, who went on a murderous crusade in Southern California, Marvin Gay, Sr. who killed his son in what he claimed was self defense; the infamous "Vampire of Sacramento" whose insatiable thirst for blood drove him into a horrific murduous range in California's capitol city; and others, all equally macabre.

According to Markman, murders probably best represent a cross section of America- most of the time homocides are committed by people who have mever committed any crimes before. "The devil that drives some of us to violently take the life of another does not discriminate," he warns.

Intriguing, terrifying, and racked wtih the missplaced emotionf that often drives killers into their psychopathic states, Alone with the Devil is true-crime analysis in its purest form.

Ronald Markman, M.D. , is a psychiatrist and attorney, licensed in New York, California, and Virginia. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiastry and Neurology and the American Board of Forensic Psychiatry and has been involved in some of the most sensational murder trials over the past twenty years.

Dominick Bosco is a senior editor of Prevention Magazine, and has co-authored many books, including Confessions of a Medical Heretic (with Dr. Robert Mendelsohn).
