About the story....
This tale unfolds in the little town of Waverly, Pennsylvania, where a thirty-two-year-old recluse is about to fall out of a window into a most extraordinary fate.
The strange events are triggered when an angel of death visits the Malones under their backyard chestnut tree and whisks away Atlas Malone, former hardware store owner and husband of Gracie. When the undertaker balks, she brings up an old scandal about dead bodies and chipped ice-all's fair in love and funerals.
